Yet again, Greenwich has changed the wording on its accreditation page.
    http://www.greenwich.edu/guacc1.htm

Greenwich is no longer a 'global' university, but an 'international' university.

All degree programs are now designed to meet the 'academic standards' of Australian and British Universities, not Australian accreditation requirements as previously stated.

And now, thankfully, Greenwich have *finally* taken off the claim that its programs meet Australian competency standards. Endorsed competency standards do not exist for post-graduate study and it has always baffled me why this has been stated.

Oh, and also there is a word of caution about students seeking specific licensing.

So, does the removal of 'Australian accreditation requirements' suggest that Greenwich will not reapply to be listed on the AQF? Time will obviously tell.

    Cheers,

    George

    George:

Given the adjustments to their website, does this mean that GU is now in the position to offer internationally recognized degrees?

Or, does it remain an island entity, with degrees being recognized only within a one mile circumference of Norfolk Island?

Interesting question Russell. How would someone from Australia view a Greenwich degree. As I understand it the Norfolk islanders are not independent. Would this degree be similar to a US state approved degree (realizing when I make the comparison that there is a great deal of difference between states)? I assume a graduate would not qualify for appropriate professional licenses in Australia based on graduation from Greenwich U.

As far as foreign credential evaluation I assume that without any Norfolk Island public university system that the credential evaluators would look to Australia (AQF) for recognition. Seems to leave Greenwich in a difficult situation. They probably should have started out offering far fewer degrees and concentrated on those until they had passed the acceptance point.

They've got an act of the Norfolk Island legislature, but I'm not sure how that obligates anyone to recognize them, even on NI's small territory.

Hawaii approves a lot of weird schools, but Hawaiians are not obligated to recognize any of them, and I'm sure most don't. You can't get licensed to practice law or medicine in Hawaii with a Hawaii approved degree. Even the same state government that approved your school probably wouldn't hire you.

I doubt that NI is any different, except that it's so small that everyone probably knows everyone. Buying your prospective employer a few pints might go a long way. But it's still not the degree.
