I just took the GRE last month as I prepare to apply to grad school. They switched over to a new scoring system and I'm having trouble interpreting my scores. When I first finished the exam, the computer gave me a score range: Verbal: 630-730 Quan.: 660-760 I was quite pleased with these ranges. However, when I actually received my scores with the new scoring system, this is what I got: Verbal: 160 Quan.: 154 That gives me a total of 314. From what I've been reading, a 300 equals the old score of approx. 1000. From what I can figure, a 314 equals around 1150 to maybe 1200. But from my range, I was supposed to have 1290 - 1490. What happened?? Can anyone help me make sense of this? Thanks!
I suspect that your ranges were test specific and your final scores are curved against the population of test takers. Next time take the test when everyone and their mother isn't trying to go back to school to avoid the economy..
