    Hello everyone!

I am interested in Gratham University for Computer Engineering Technology. However I want to continue my education to Master Degree or PhD later on, but I am afraid that Grantham University degree would not be accepted to Grad school for Master of Science in Computer Engineering. Is there any of you have earned BS in Engineering from Grantham that got accepted for grad school for engineering? If so, would you please give me the information of the school that accepts Grantham's degree.

Here is the list of school that Grantham University listed:

    CALIFORNIA POLYTECHNIC STATE UNI. (CA)
    CENTRAL MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY (MI)
    CITY UNIVERSITY (WA)
    CLARKSON UNIVERSITY (NY)
    CLEVELAND INSTITUTE OF ELECTRONICS (OH)
    CYPRESS COLLEGE (CA)
    DOWLING COLLEGE (NY)
    FERRIS STATE UNIVERSITY (MI)
    FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY (FL)

    SUMMER INSTITUTE OF LINGUISTICS (Philippines)
    TENNESSEE TECHNOLOGICAL U. (TN)
TEXAS AGRICULTURAL & MECHANICAL U. (TX)

Are there any reasons for considering Grantham?

    Yes,......
    1) Free tuition and materials includes textbook for Military student
    2) Evaluate all military credits by ACE
    3) Evaluate IT certifications
    4) Convennient for Soldier in Infantry Unit
    5) Earn the degree faster than Weber State University, Excelsior College, Old Dominion University or CNA-AS.

    Very good reason ;) .

This is not uncommon. In fact, ODU will let you fill in all the lower level technical credit for their BSET in General Engineering Technology. They also have no limit on the CLEP credit you can use when you do the BSGET program. It is not just for Navy either (I am a Marine and was considering it).

Also, if you are Navy. Are you a Navy Nuke? If so, the BS in Nuclear Engineering Technology from Excelsior will probably be your quickest route.

Opps, I didn't see this before. So, your obviously NOT a nuke and (if your infantry and have not lat moved or took military courses in electronics) will probably not have enough technical credit for ODU to make it worth your while.

If you are starting out from scratch. Maybe you would be interested in doing an AAS in Technical Studies from Excelsior and transferring it into ODU or continue w/ a BS in Technology from Excelsior. The BS in Technology does not require lab work and can be completed a lot quicker than their ABET accredited BSET.

You have two problems if you go w/ grantham and want to continue w/ an MS in Computer Engineering.

    1. It is DETC accredited. You may have problems getting your BS accepted at regionally accredited institutions.

    2. It is an engineering technology degree (so are all the other options we have listed EXCEPT CNUAS). Which will probably require you to take bridge courses in calculus, physics, and whatever else an ET degree is shy in compared to an EE or CE.

    Bill

That's all I can think of.

    Bill,

Thank you very much for your advice....and I think I am going to choose either Excelsior College or Weber State University. The reason for that because they are ABET and Regional.

I am a U.S Marine, and ODU is located in my home state; which is eastern time. It is not a good idea for me because they use webcast system via online by ET time. Camp Pendleton is where my duty station is in the west coast, and our unit are going to be deployed again to IRAQ next year early in March. California National University - Advanced Study still NATIONAL.... The best option for me is Excelsior College.

I don't know if this will exactly meet your needs, but have you ever considered UMUC? You might want to visit their website for members of the military to check things out for yourself...

    netGor,

Semper Fi, Marine (I was a 6433 from 96-01). ODU also has many of their ET coursework on cdrom (for their navy college degree program BSGET), I believe it is still a semester based course so, take that for what it's worth.

I found Excelsior a good option for military folks, because they have no time limit on credit and they follow you around. I've PCS'd 8 times in 17 years, with 2 extended desert vacations. They are understanding for mil members.

Some schools are less so understanding: U of Oklahoma is giving me fits because I missed a class (after they lost the contract to provide an M Ed here) and can't seem to make it up cause they have no DL for Education concentration classes. They seem to think I "chose" to take a four month "vacation" in Nothern Iraq instead of "choosing" to sit in class, so it is my problem, not thiers.

I really like the way AMU looks for military memebers, provided they get RA they would be a good option for many, with several possible majors. But you can't beat the portabiliy of Excelsior, COSC, or Tom Edison State.

Click on the admissions requirements to University of Wisconsin's Master of Engineering online.

It says in the admissions requirements you need a regional or a nationally accredited bachelors. So, I think a bachelors at Grantham would apply to admission to this program. Just something to consider (even though tuition is 500 dollars a credit!).

I don't think the undergrad math and engineering requirements will be that high considering, it is more of an engineering management curriculum than an engineering degree in a specific discipline (so, an engineering technology undergrad degree may suffice).

    Hope this helps,
    Bill

Ummm, are you allowed to tell people over the internet about troop deployments?

Perhaps things have changed since I was in the Navy.

    Try this link instead.

I don't think this was your concern. Instead, I think you just saw an opportunity to make this guy look like a crapbag for telling the WHOLE WORLD that he was going to Iraq in March.

I'm sorry; but, I can not find where he stated the specific group. Did you mean Camp Pendleton? You know, that not exactly a small "group". Many different batallions/squadrons/units/groups/whatever.

Nope, you Navy types still don't PT or get haircuts :)D just joking, don't flame!)

    Grantham Transfer

    netGor,

Try California National University (CNU) they are DETC and have a Masters Degree.

However, I would be shy about participating with a DETC Engineering program because it does not count if you are going towards a PE License. You should check your state's requirements to see what will satisfy that need.

I noticed that a canadian university is listed.

This ad is confusing because it gives a list of universities but it doesn't give the
schools (Computer Engineering, Computer Science, etc....). If your intention is to get a master of computer engineering degree, you will need to get an engineering degree and not a engineering technology degree. However, this can be accepted for other similar degrees like computer science or information systems.
