I have just completed my BS in MIS from a RA B&M school, and I also have an AS in a health physics/nuclear imagining. I am working as an Clinical Systems Analyst and enjoy my work. I think this end of the hospital suits me more for some reason. I am looking at grad school now, and trying to decided if I want to continue with an MSIS, MSIT, or MBA-Project Manager. I am looking at whatever is going to make me the most marketable in the field. I would prefer a program that is reasonably priced >15k and RA, since ultimately I would like to teach one day. Finally I would prefer a faster track if available, but not necessary since I work full time. Anyway...any suggestions for this long time lurker? I have looked at Amberton and Tarleton State so far.
Welcome to Degree Info. Glad you decided to post with us after lurking for awhile. I'm sure you will soon find some good information from our erudite members. Here's some new member info: http://www.degreeinfo.com/general-distance-learning-discussions/35100-new-users-ask-where-did-my-posts-go.html
I can't offer any advice on what is best for your career, however I can talk to you about Tarleton. I'm a MBA student at Tarleton, and I'm really enjoying the program. While I am designated as an "online" student, I take half of my classes in person...becauce the option was available for me. Plus for folks in Texas, the tuition is extremely low. You may want to add Texas A&M-Commerce to your evaluation list.
If you want to move at your own pace online then I would recommend you take a look at www.ncu. edu. They have a lot of concentrations in the mba program that will allow you to get 18 credits in a single discipline which is the minimum for teaching typically. It is not the cheapest option but you can move quickly if you invest the time and effort.
If you plan to be a future teacher, please go for MS. It goes deeper in the field you are working for.
Another school to investigate would be Mississippi State. They have both a MBA and an MBA in Project Management available 100% online. They are priced right at the $15-$16k mark. They are RA and AACSB. It is also accelerated as many of the courses in the programs are available in an 8-week format: Mississippi State Online Distance MBA
I agree. With an MBA you would have to take extra courses in MIS. At AMU the concentration requires 9 units. So depending upon what concentration you choose it would require 2-3 more classes when doing a more targeted Masters such as a Master's in IT would automatically qualify you to teach. I guess it really depends what school you go to as well. Some concentration as mentioned earlier require 18 units for a concentration. AMU just requires less. AMU could be a good option, but I am thinking you would want to attend a school with a better Brand name. Anyway good luck on your decison.
I have looked into the MLS in Information Assurance from Fort Hays and MS in Applied CS Information Assurance from Columbus State as well. Was hoping to find a quicker path, like 8 or 10 week courses, but I like the prices on these programs.
