Don't mind at all! Adult psy and mental health. Make you laugh, I took the CNS exam when the requirements were only a "master's in a related field." Because of my MSW I was allowed to take the exam. Now, you need a MSN to take the exam. The funny part for me was most of the exam consisted of questions I had when I took my LCSW exam. I passed on the first attempt...not so much because of my nursing knowledge/skills, but on my social work skills and knowledge.

    WOW,

I wish I had taken the CNS exam a couple of years ago, but do to work I was unable to do so and REALLY REGRET IT.

I am and have been working in Nursing Administration a very long time and really want the Adult PMH-CNS certification and the only way to get it is go back to school for a MSN-CNS (PMH) certification.

The MSN-CNS (PMH) route is a very lengthy process (2 years thru Liberty Univ) filled with yet another Masters degree and a lot of Nursing theory.

I have been "Fully accepted" into the Liberty University -Acute Care CNS program as of June 24, 2008 and I have provisionally decided instead to work on a South African Nursing PhD program. I may complete a Masters in Psychology (California Coast Univ) along the way.

Liberty Univ has given me one year to change my mind at $250 per credit hour.

    Take care,

Hey, we must be related :), we have similar experiences. I didn’t state in my earlier post, but I retired after working 25 years at the VA Medical Center. I retired as the “Associate Director of Surgery Service Line (go figure). What a trip! Between the egos of the surgeons and the CRNAs combined with all the other OR stuff, I couldn’t wait to get out. My psy and social work skills were tested daily.

Anyway, I retried at 55 y/o and have been working on personal goals (or bucket list) i.e., RV(ing) fishing, seeing the National Parks and learning Wingtsu. Like you I have been looking into PhD programs and particular the South African PhD program in Social Work. However, I cannot figure out the website. I don’t want to give credit card information and other personal information and have it lost in cyber-space. Do you understand the registration process at UNISA?

Lastly, I have been looking into some of the non-accredited PhD program in California. No diploma mills, just not RA of NA but accredited in California. At age 62, I have no intentions of returning to the work force, and this would be for my own personal satisfaction plus I can afford the tuition and fees… realistically at 62 y/o I don’t want any student loans.

    Unisa Information

Yes, we do have a lot in common and that is very rare in male nurses.

I understand your dilema with credit card use over the WWW, but you can contact UNISA's USA/CANADA authorized representative to help with your admissions and enrollment concerns.

I hope this helps and enjoy that VA retirement. I read on the VA's website that they have now instituted their own travel nursing program.

    Best regards,
