    Very interesting,

    Wile I'm from Ukraine and my father from Romania I know that on my mother side (Last name Toledano grait geand parants) - ie long long time ego their ansestors were forced to leave Spain - Toledo and moved to other countries. Elvira wasn't common name in our region yet it passed to grandmother.

    Lerner, very cool that Sephardic Jews kept their traditions. I wonder if they speak ladino (a language that I understand perfectly!!!! ;). Many Jews changed their names in a toponymic manner. They adopted the names of cities, colors, etc,... to avoid persecution. Toledano could perfectly be one of those. Elvira is a name several Castillian queens held about 800-1000 ago. Many Spanish woman used that name nowadays. Many of thoese Spaniards fled to south eastern Europe, like Romania, Turkey, etc, ...

    Nice to meet a Sephardic descendant.
