    I just read that:
From September 1, 2024 onwards, only students with a Finnish social security number (i.e. a personal identity code) can start their studies on Xamk Pulse’s (XAMK) courses at:

    https://koulutuskalenteri.xamk.fi/en/pulse/

The only way to get a personal identity code is to move to Finland. So I suppose these free UG courses are no longer availalbe to students living outside of Finland. Am I interpreting this right?

Yes It's true. I received this measage forom the University. I enjoyed these and they were a rarity -free college credit courses.
Hello, and thank you for your message.

Unfortunately, from September 1, 2024 onwards, only students with a Finnish social security number (i.e. a personal identity code) can start their studies on Xamk Pulse’s courses.

How to get the personal identity code? The personal identity code is issued only to a foreign citizen moving to Finland from abroad.

Residence permit based on Open studies? Open Studies are not full-time and do not lead to a qualification – therefore it is not possible to get a residence permit based on studies at Open University of Applied Sciences. More info on this site.

What else Xamk has to offer? Get to know Xamk’s Global Talent Acquisition Programmes and Xamk’s Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree programmes. Also follow our course calendar in the autumn 2024 and spring 2025. We are aiming to offer new educational products, that will unfortunately be subject to a fee in the future.

The end of an era, in a way, although it's tough to blame them.

A young lawyer friend of mine some years ago got accepted to an international Master of Laws program in Helsinki. The Government of Finland paid all expenses and a stipend. It was a pretty big deal. I wonder if they are still doing that.
