[Tony Pina: I appreciate the idea, but perhaps your library could be encouraged to get its own. When a new edition was out, I used to donate all the previous editions on hand to prison libraries. I now encourage the publisher to do this, but I don't know if they do.]

How about a boxed set of all 15 editions on e-bay?

This would be an interesting history of distance education over, what, the past quarter century? When was the first edition?

When I type "John Bear" in Amazon.com I get the following listed first:

"Guide to Distance Learning Programs 2004 (Peterson's Guide to Distance Learning Programs)"

Is this a paid placement and/or an unauthorized use of Dr. Bear's name?

That's weird, David. Thank you for the information.

Our copy editor at Prometheus Books also works part time for Peterson's. I'm asking her for comment, as well as the folks at Ten Speed.

Received my copy this morning. Thank you very much, Dr. Bear! This was very kind and generous of you.

If you will email (or post here if you like) the name of your favorite charity (barring any hard left political group) I will send them a donation.

John B: That's very kind of you. I'd vote for an organization that helps abused and battered children, since that seems the worst thing one human can do to another. A couple of years ago, I heard the founder of Stand Up for Kids on the radio, and was most impressed. It's a growing organization that rescues battered, abused, and homeless children.

I will send them a check Monday. Thank you for the URL. This is indeed a worthy cause.

Pete was told by his post office in Chicago that they could not sell him a $3.85 priority mail stamp, if he was going to take it out of the post office . . . so he had to send me a stack of 37's. No one else had that problem. Wonder what's going on here?

And when I took Pete's book to the post office counter (because I've learned you can't put priority mail envelopes heavier than 16 oz. in a mailbox), it was rejected because it was too thick. Even though the flat rate priority mail envelope says that anything that fits inside can be mailed, the lovely Pam-Ella got out her ruler, and said, "Too thick by 1/8 of an inch."

My clever solution (which, thankfully, worked): I mailed it at the other post office in town.
