    Fordham University, the Jesuit university in New York City, offers a hybrid PhD in Religion and Practice. "The Ph.D. program offers students mentoring and rigorous study in practical theology and religious education, and also draws on the richness of other practice-intensive fields at GRE, such as Christian spirituality and pastoral mental health counseling. […] Students are required to attend the January session on campus during the first two years of enrollment in the program."

    "Although the Ph.D. admissions committee invites those with a background from a variety of fields of study and work experience, applicants who are most successful in earning a place to study in our Ph.D. in religion and practice program have: earned master's degree in practical theology, religious education, pastoral ministry, religious studies, or related field from an accredited educational institution;
    a grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or better in graduate studies (preferred).
    experience working in the field of religious education as a teacher, catechetical leader, youth minister, pastor, pastoral associate, diocesan leader, curriculum developer, etc. […]"
