Fox News Digital first reported that several official government websites claim Neeley received a Bachelor’s degree in communication from Saginaw Valley State University.

Neeley attended SVSU, but did not receive a degree.

He did receive his associate’s degree from Delta College.

In a statement Wednesday, Neeley blames “a political staffer” for the initial error, which has been reprinted elsewhere online. The mayor notes that Flint Journal candidate surveys dating back to 2001, 2007, and 2014 reflected his actual education status.

They often blame a staffer. Ashley Hinson threw a consulting firm under the bus for plagiarized op-eds bearing her name and few lamented that she can't even be bothered to write her own position papers.

My favorite is FL House candidate Melissa Howard who was first outed for claiming a fake degree, before actually producing the diploma. Then when the school she allegedly graduated from said it had no record of her graduating and did not even offer a major in the program she was supposed to have graduated from, fessed up to the whole thing: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/politics/wp/2018/08/14/florida-candidate-admits-she-faked-her-college-diploma/

Edit: Interesting! The article notes that falsifying academic credentials is a first degree misdemeanor in Florida and a follow-up article confirmed she was actually charged with that offense: https://www.heraldtribune.com/story/news/politics/elections/local/2018/09/14/melissa-howard-makes-deal-with-prosecutors-in-fake-diploma-case/10506130007/

I have never understood the purpose of faking a college degree. Sure, you may get away with it for a short time but there will always be that one person that questions the validity and searches for the proof.

Earn the degree like the rest of us that put in literally thousands of hours towards undergraduate and graduate degrees.
