No, this isn't a photoshopped meme. This is an actual still from the most trusted name in news.
Here's another example of the same genre, from CNN's (and formerly the Washington Post's) Chris Cillizza
In case Chris deletes it, it's a twitter post with these words, "Trump's efforts to label what is happening in major cities as "riots" speaks at least somewhat to his desperation, politically speaking, at the moment." Accompanied by this photo:
Seriously, it's so tone-deaf that one naturally suspects that it's satire from the Onion. But it seems to be real.
I wonder whether NewsNation will live up to its billing as being journalism that's free of opinion and based on facts... and if it is whether anyone will watch it.
I just discovered that WGN, which I've never watched, is indeed on my cable TV lineup.
From looking at their website, they are certainly trying to wrap themselves in a Midwestern small-city vibe. But in reality, I think that WGN comes out of Chicago. Not exactly representative of Middle America.
But yeah, I'll give it a look and see whether I like it.
There really is a huge void in the straight-journalism space that CNN has thoroughly abandoned by its slide left. This thing might just conceivably be successful, provided that they play it straight and don't try to use their channel as a vehicle for their editors' personal views or as another engine for "social change".
