There are some accredited schools that (legitimately) award portfolio credit in such a way that you can't tell from the transcript whether the credit was awarded by portfolio or the student actually attended the class.

The Savannah College of Art and Design apparently has no (official) mechanism for awarding credit by portfolio, but they were trying to do this chap a favour by circumventing their own red tape. So why did he blow the whistle on them?

Or circumventing their own academic processes.

I am sure that the person involved was well trained for the masters degree, lacking only documentation.

I am sure this happens more frequently than we would like to believe.

Whistle blower's motivation - who knows? Somehow I suspect that there is something more than just academic integrity involved. I could be wrong.

I'm surprised that a regionally accredited school would "bend the rules" and allow this to happen. They've now placed themselves in a position to have their policies and processes examined and their accreditation status suspended or revoked. Of course, any disciplinary action regarding this matter will be the responsibility of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
