Education was key to the US becoming a superpower

    Well, maybe so, but the republic will not long endure without a literate electorate. Industrial capitalism does not depend on democracy to thrive.

    What does depend on democracy to thrive? In the U.S., voting for representatives is simply in the mix of checks and balances against oppressive government. Or so was meant to be.

    Unless, that is, we are to confuse democracy with freedom.

    I will think Education is a key variabe but not the only variable to the USA becoming a superpower. What were the predictors of a successful industrial revolution? We may be surprised, you may find some surprising results like access to free and cheap labor, access to raw materials from colonies, education,democracy etc.
