Hello I'm seeking your honest take.

I received admission into the Online EdD in Higher Ed Admin at Southern Miss yesterday. While ecstatic, I wonder whether to hold out on Illinois, as they indicated they are sending out final decisions in the next week or so.

    Thoughts?

The obvious first question is by when did Southern Miss tell you that they need an answer?

Is the Illinois program also an EdD in Higher Ed Admin?

    What are your career goals?

    What do you currently do?

Would the local/regional reputation of either, or key faculty members, be advantageous with your career goals?

    Hi Benjamin,

I'm in a unique position here because I completed by Ed.M. online through Illinois and I, too, was just accepted into the Southern Miss Ed.D. in Higher Education a few days ago.

My take? Accept the Southern Miss offer. It doesn't bind you to enroll. If Illinois comes through, and that's your #1 choice, then go that route. These programs are similar in price, duration, and their asynchronous requirements.

As a side-note, it also depends on your goal. If you're doing either the LDL or New Learning concentrations at Illinois, then I would suggest Illinois. That program is lead by Bill Cope who is LEGENDARY in that field (along with his wife Mary who is also on the faculty). I took a course with Dr. Cope as an elective during my Ed.M. and he's as good as advertised.
