I nominate James Crabb. He has experience moderating a board.

"Bruce" does NOT rhyme with "Duce".
Added moderators will follow his good example of governance by ratio recta.;)

    Ha! :p Good one.

I can't believe no one's commented on this. This is the funniest post in this thread!

    Yeah... it's a faster-than-a-speeding-bullet and able-to-leap-tall-buildings-in-a-single-bound kinda' thing.

    ;)

But seriously... it's just a category of moderator in the vBulletin software. It has some rights that a regular moderator doesn't have (though I've not yet consulted the vBulleton documentation to see precisely what those are)... but I think mostly how it benefits Bruce and Chip is that it provides global moderation rights so that when and if new forums are created, Bruce and/or Chip won't have to go back and manually specify which moderators have rights to moderate which threads. Around here, there isn't a complex hierarchy of forums and sub-forums such as that of which vBulletin is capable. When such a hierarchy is present, some forums owners want moderators to moderate certain forums, but not others. vBulletin permits that by letting the administrator limit a moderator to only specific forums.

However, Chip, et al, wanted to keep things simple and have as few different forums as possible. I remember when he created the political forum that he was pretty much loathe to do so, but felt he had to because the political discussion was monopolizing the off-topics forums. The IT forum, too, was a spin-off of the main forum because, at the time, someone -- Chip, I presume -- felt that the main forums were getting too IT heavy.

But, regardless how many forums there are, the gameplan around here, in pursuit of the keeping it simple philosophy, is that if a person is a moderator at all, then s/he will moderate it all. So, giving us super moderator status makes it easier on Chip and/or Bruce in terms of rights creation and other time-consuming administrator stuff. There are other benefits, but I think it's as simple as that, really.

    Re: "Super Moderator"

    Gregg,

I thought it was something like that.

I've always thought it was an amusing anachronism from the dot-com era that we have a separate forum for IT degrees. I remember those days fondly. :)

All moderators (sto lat!) must be vigilant against the false garb of sweet reason being donned here by those who are unreasoning elsewhere and committed to the destructive agendas promoted elsewhere.
I am confident our moderators understand this.
