Oklahoma State University started offering an online DHCA program in Fall 2022. Accepted students can potentially transfer up to 30 credits from their master's degree. Since the program is new and likely going through changes, I do not know whether the catalog is accurate. So far, there appears to be no research project. Letters of recommendation are optional. Out-of-state students will be charged a reduced rate for online-only students. https://medicine.okstate.edu/academics/programs/doctor-in-healthcare-administration.html http://catalog.okstate.edu/graduate-college/doctoral/health-care-administration-dhca/
With no transfer credits, this program is just a little more expensive than VUL's. With 30 transfer credits from a related master's degree, this program will be a lot cheaper than VUL's, and you won't need two master's degrees or externship hours.
I found an article. The program doesn't require a dissertation. It doesn't say whether there's an applied research project or capstone. If your master's degree is older than 10 years, you'll have to take two refresher courses. https://news.okstate.edu/articles/health-sciences/2022/osu-chs-adds-doctorate-in-health-care-administration-degree.html
This is definitely a much stronger curriculum than VUL as it relates to healthcare. Not sure many who didn't do their masters in healthcare at OSU or have an MHA from a solid program elsewhere will be able to take full advantage of transfer units (i.e. a MBA in Healthcare management probably will only net maybe 12-18 units max I bet). Nonetheless, this seems like a really great non-thesis option for a professional doctorate.
I don't think OSU is picky about program reputation or ranking. They probably just require the credits to come from a regionally accredited school, if that. I can't find anything on their website on accreditation requirements for transfer credits, but I didn't search that hard. I suspect relevant credits can come from programs titled health care administration, health care management, health information management, health informatics, health science, and public health (depending on the concentration). WGU has a master's in health leadership if someone is looking for a potentially quick and cheap program.
