Re: Advice would be greatly appreciated about best of my 3 choices for a Doctorte in Bus

With respect to those choices you might want to consider two other possibilities:

Touro University International -- Ph.D. in Business Administration -- http://www.tourou.edu
University of Phoenix -- DM and DBA -- http://www.phoenix.edu

Disclosure: note that I teach MBA students at University of Phoenix Online, have earned a DBA at California Pacific University and am approaching candidacy in Touro's Ph.D. in Business Administration program.

Write me off-line if you want other details.

    Best wishes,

    Dave

For some reason U of Phoenix seems to have removed all details of their doctorates from the web (or made it difficult to locate)

    Question

A couple of questions about the Dtech if you don't mind:-

Which university is the technikon merging with?

Do you have to have a technical Masters degree (engineering or IT) to do the DTech?

    Depends on the program...

I would imagine. I have a BA with a Business Admin minor and an MBA. That sufficed for the DTech in business administration. DIT was formed by the merger of 2 technikons. There had been talk of a merger with another university, however, that appeared to fall through due to concerns with DIT's financial status. I took that into consideration when I opted for them. Financial problems do not appear to be limited to DIT and their prompt responses led me to believe I could expect more of the same in the future. Service was an important consideration for selecting a school.

    Rich, read your email again..

I don't think there is really any real prescribed focus as far as theory or practice. They asked for my original topic and accepted me from there. They may have such issues and applied them when they reviewed my topic without me knowing of it. My current supervisor is assigned pending the outcome of my literature review. If I were to veer more towards the practical technical aspects of the topic they will assign an assistant supervisor with a more technical background. However, if I stay more business oriented she will continue to handle it alone. They seem really flexible on the topic even though she seems more firm on the process of my research if you know what I mean?

    Re: Question

This is a good site for answers to technikon questions.

If you are going to get a D.Tech, be sure to wear the correct hat.

While the question seemed to be for a non-accredited DBA, I would like to offer a cost-effective accredited one. I am completing my third (and final) year at Grenoble Graduate School of Business. I have enjoyed the process very much. This is still a pilot program, and the school never plans on having a very large doctorial program – but if you are looking for a DBA that is part-time, from a prestigious school and that also gives you experience in the European Union you may want to consider it. My cost has been $9000 per year (tuition) and $1400 per year (one week trip to France inclusive).

Interesting option... I'll read up on it. Is there any distinguishing academic benefit you found interesting about the school? At approx. 30K+, there are Stateside programs in that range as well that are worth considering.

    Curious,

    Dave

DL? Which ones? I don't think they are DL.

GGSB - You are only requried once a year to go to France (not a bad deal). All the students in the program are from the States, so everything is in English. And they are actively seeking AACSB accreditation.
