degree meaning? AA/BA/MA AS/BS/MS etc

    this is going to seem like a stupid question, probably more so because I been in school for a billion years but... what is the difference in the AA/AS, BA/BS, MA/MS. Phd/D

    In truth the titles mean what ever the schools that grants them want them to mean. There are no "official" difenitions.

    That said, the general thinking is the difference between an arts and a science degree relates to the amount of laboratory and advanced math work that you do. And of course there are MAJOR exceptions (such as math, chemistry, and physics were a BA in those fields is also heavy in the lab and advanced math).

    As to the PhD vs. Docotr of __ the main difference is SUPPOSED to be that the PhD includes and original and new contribution to the field and the Doctor of ___ just "advances" the field (which says ?). In actual fact the PhD's original and new is what your advisor and committee say is original and new, and the same for the "advancement".
