Problem with all these digital media online programs is that the curriculum gets stale and outdated after 6 months. Online schools refresh their courses every few years at best and their text books and readings can hang around for even longer.

That's just as true for many technical programs.

That's just as true for brick and mortar schools.

On Wikipedia, notability is established over time. It's common for a subject or topic to have a new article created once, twice, or even several times and have it be deleted due to lack of notability. Then, eventually, the notability reaches a critical mass and the 2nd, 3rd, 4th article is allowed to stay and grow. Similarly, in academic disciplines you see programs created that are very specialized like this one. Many will fall out of fashion, like the Wikipedia articles deleted for lack of notability. Some will endure and become a full-fledged discipline.

In general, I think that attending a specialized program like this is a worse choice than attending a more general program in communications. As a Data Science graduate, I still side-eye whether it is a real discipline.

Another example: there was an explosion in computer game design programs a few years ago. The general consensus is that to make it in the industry, you should study either computer science to learn to program (which has its own issues of theory vs practice), or a visual arts program to learn to animate/draw. Instead, game design graduates were mediocre at coding and medicore at art, leaving them with no strong skill set in either area.

This is just a marketing degree with some basic tech and data analytics thrown in. Changes in social media platform popularity shouldn't have much of an effect on online marketing strategies.

You know....because until a degree was created, nobody knew how to become an influencer.

The most effective approach to teaching this degree is to combine foundational marketing principles with up-to-date, practical marketing tactics.
