I think this would depend very heavily on the particular department's culture. Community colleges constitute the biggest sector in HE, and the difference in mission can be stark. Some seem to be ran predominantly for transfer and act as a 2-year satellites of the state's University system. Others lean much more heavily towards vocation training. There's no silver bullet. One constant seem to be the focus on teaching experience, so by all means start adjuncting as soon as you can.

    P. S. A doctorate of some kind is definitely an asset for an aspiring college president; I have no idea how to navigate the rest of that particular ladder. The start seem to be, yes, becoming faculty and serving as a department chairperson.

Then maybe an Ed.D in Higher Ed Admin. Plenty of good programs available at a distance in this field.

Thanks for the input. I will definitely start looking for adjunct opportunities.

Good idea. I have considered Ed.D. programs but I would prefer a degree in the subject matter (business) I want to teach. I have found an additional program that I would like pursue after the DBA. It's the Graduate Certificate in Higher Education Leadership & Management (HELM) – University of Massachusetts Amherst.

I second this opinion. I hold a DBA and mainly use it to teach and supervise research. It is true that unless it comes from a top school, it won't hold much value for academic careers but it can help you to become full time faculty at a 4 year college or 2 year community college.

An Indian degree from an online school is not going to do much for you other than helping you to learn something new and show a legit academic credential. It might help you to get some adjunct gigs that require you to have a minimum amount of credits in area to teach a subject also.

A DBA can be good mainly for personal development, adjunct positions, being able to write a book and use the title Dr.,

If the DBA is from a good school, you can use it to become a consultant at a top firm like PWC, Deloitte, etc.

Some use the DBA to become professional trainers and business coaches.

I agree, most CC teachers are mainly experienced professionals. The DBA is just the cherry on the cake.

Another word of caution is that the OP is looking for a general management DBA. This is a very hard sell, most adjunct positions come from Finance, Accounting, Management Stats, Operations, Marketing or IT and you will find very few that want a general management teacher.
