Can she ask the school to switch her classes? Math Topics sounds like a slacker class. PreAP Calc for a senior isn't insanely competitive, either. It's Pre-AP, not AP. Yes, it's hard and all, but it's not college level. High school classes are much, much easier than college statistics classes.

Top % of a high school class is less meaningful if the classes are easy. I'm much more impressed by a student who takes all AP classes and all honors and makes less of a GPA than a kid who doesn't take all APs and gets a 3.5 GPA.

It would not look impressive if she failed the college class or did poorly.

    It's Pre-AP.

She could try CLEP in some subject, but if she's weak in math, I can't imagine that doing much good... unless the desired college has a very low CLEP score requirement.

She could look at other colleges so she doesn't have to take classes she's weak at. Why fret over some school she hasn't yet applied to or attended? Have her find a college that's a great fit for her all-around.

I thought valedictorian's were confirmed at/near graduation the 2nd semester of their senior year, not upcoming seniors. She's valedictorian but is just starting her senior year, and is just starting to apply to college? I'm confused.

  3. Valid points. Maybe I should have followed the timeline of this thread a little closer. My school didn't confirm our Valedictorian until the 2nd semester. Maybe the other kid transferred or something.

I don't understand how they can determine she is valedictorian at this time in the school year. My daughters were both valedictorians and it was determined near the end of their senior year and I believe that is how it usually is.
