I need to have an LCGI and a GCGI in Management from City & Guilds evaluated.

Is one service more user friendly than the other? Does anyone have any experience with a particular evaluator in regards to City & Guilds awards?

    Any help would be appreciated.

If you are applying these qualifications toward a degree then the school you are applying to will direct you to an evaluator. I had my UK college work evaluated for Excelsior (I forget which evaluator that was).

When I submitted my qualifications I submitted them in report form with copies of certificates, letter from colleges showing grades earned, number of hours spent in class (at that time in the UK a school year ran September thru June), and list of textbooks (easy because I still have and use them). I included a summary table up front with a suggested USA equivalent semester hours and whether upper or lower level.

The really annoying thing here, Mr. Tullo, is inconsistency. I did the fairly expensive experiment of having a colleague with unusual credentials (various certificates from the UK and Guyana; a Canadian chartered accountant, and a Heriot-Watt MBA) to 10 or 12 different NACES members, and there was quite a wide range of responses -- the MBA, for instance, evaluated as everything from "exact equivalent of regional accreditation" to "below the level of a Bachelor's degree."

Responses from readers over the years suggested that AACRAO, World Education Services, Josef Silny, and Educational Credential Evaluators were among the most popular, although it was ECE that did the very low-level MBA evaluation. (Heriot-Watt protested vigourously. Their offer to supply copies of the coursework and exams was rejected.)

So an unfortunate lesson learned is that if one really believes an evaluation is not accurate, consider shopping around -- unless, of course, as Ian suggests, the school to which you are applying has specific requirements or recommendations.

Thank you Dr. Bear and to you as well Ian,

I had read about the inconsistencies in Dr. Bear's study and that is part of the goal I am trying to avoid.

The reason I aquired these credentials is two-fold. The first is work related, an added credential in a tough market couldn't hurt and for this a document by document evaluation should be sufficient. The second is advancement of my education.

I had previously attempted to enroll at UNISA and found myself a victim of the very education system we have in this country. Here in the US you can have a BS in Sociology, advance to a MS in Administration or Human Resources and Labor Relations (I have both), and then seek a doctorate in yet a third field as long as you make-up the necessary pre-requisites.

I was rejected at UNISA because my undergraduate and graduate degrees were not in the same area as the doctorate I sought. Although I am now considering Durban University of Technology, I don't want to be caught in the same position of not having an appropiate undergraduate degree or its equivalent. I don't expect much resistance to the GCGI/LCGI because DUT is a Direct Authority for City&Guilds.

Excuse me, that's "Delegated Authority", not Direct Authority.
