A name I remember from when I was a teenager and whom I've been trying to contact recently but had no joy in getting a response from. They are apparently affiliated with the American Bible College in Florida so award degrees via them. Anyone ever heard or had dealings with either? My interest is the PhD as my musical subject is rather niche and would fit a less than mainstream provider.

Are you freakin’ joking? First of all, you can easily search both entities right on Google. And both of these so-called schools are clearly diploma mills.

So, why would you want to take your apparently legitimate credentials from OU and MMU and besmirch them with an obvious mill “credential?” (Even if you remain with VCM, they would be likely to toss you out on your bum if you walk in with such an obviously phony doctorate.)

(For those who don’t know the above abbreviations, you’ll find them explained in one of Stewart’s other threads at https://www.degreeinfo.com/index.php?threads/hello-from-me.56261/#post-527427.)

To be honest, Stewart, if a doctoral title means so much to you that you would sell your soul to get one that has no credibility whatsoever, then you will deserve the consequences. You can do better than that.

To be honest Steve having googled them I was more intrigued in finding out if they genuinely still existed above anything else. The websites are best described as rather basic and dated, as well as not having been updated in a long time. I'd got some questions going off in my head and wanted to confirm I was right.

When I was a teenager back in the 1990s I knew a number of priests in the Church of England (mainstream as well, not any of the crazier fringes) who held MA and PhD/DD from Cranmer or Central School of Religion. All were not only well respected parish priests but considered among the more educated in the area. I know a number of professional, very well respected musicians who hold the DMus of CSR (I even know at least one faculty member there it turns out). Call it academic curiosity if nothing else that I wanted to know more about the current status of Cranmer. My own subject would really fall into it by association rather than design hence my interest.

The affiliation with the American Bible College certainly took me by surprise as they took no more than a seconds glance to look very questionable. I was more concerned with trying to decide how a body with a pretty respected past in its field, in the UK at least had hooked up with them. I certainly find the claim the Department of Trade have said they are perfectly ok in offering the degrees from ABC in the UK odd. I'm not entirely sure, this coming from my day job that the Department for Education or QAA would be in agreement.

Having waited until my late 30s to return to the studying rather than teaching side I'm not prepared to fork out for anything questionable, let alone outright fake. I have no problem with left field but legit institutions. Victoria College for example has a policy that if a qualification is legit in its country of origin we accept it where appropriate for the performing arts subjects we award diplomas in. However if it is even mildly questionable then we won't allow it. Usually it falls into my department to do this and I can happily say browsing here has saved the day on a few occasions.
