I'm a bit confused...Does COSC require you to take the clep exam in a particular order? If so, what order and which cleps did you take to satisfy their distribution requirement?
I believe that any general exams need to be taken before subject exams (that cover the same material) but I may not be correct. Someone who attends COSC can clarify. Cheers, Mark
I haven't attended COSC, so I can't speak from experience, but I've heard a lot of people say that COSC insists that the exams be taken in a certain order or else the lower level course would not count. I don't understand how COSC can justify this policy. What does it matter if a person takes test X on Monday and test Y on Tuesday, or the other way around? Also, I understand they give partial credit for some CLEPs regardless of order, if they are in similar areas, and they don't have majors. On the plus side, everyone says that their student advisement is much better and friendlier than Excelsior or TESC.
I didn't take any CLEPs, but I took 3 DSSTs and quite a few (10 or so) ECEs, and I didn't have any problems at COSC. I don't think they would care as long as you took them before matriculating.
They do not care about the order. They do care about General Exams and Subject Exams covering the same material. I took History I, Sociology, and General Humanities. When I took General History and Social Science, I only got three credits because of the overlap from other exams.
Was this a recent policy change at COSC? If it is, I'm glad they don't care about the order of the examinations anymore. In the past, I've heard many people say that COSC did care about the order in which examinations are taken. For example, on Lawrie's site, one testimonial says: "It was not hard to decide for Charter Oak. They were also very helpful in advising me as to exactly what tests to take and which order to take them in so one would not 'step' on the other."
