A friend of mine is a computer programer who would like to take course work at a distance. He is especially interested in learning Java and Visual Basic.

Can someone recommend a USA RA school which will allow him to take the courses non-matric and completley at a distance? They can be on either the undergraduate or graduate level. (He earned a BA in Computer Science).

    Thank you for your help.

Is there a reason that he wants to take courses for credit? If he already has a BA in CS and just wants to learn some more languages then there are plenty of good books out there that he could use. The Deitel books are pretty decent for picking up a language.

If he prefers to take courses because his employer is paying for them (or for some other reason) then he'd probably be best off finding some sort of graduate program. There are quite a few graduate certificate programs out there if he just wants to take 3-5 courses. It's not a masters degree, but at least he'd have a credential of some sort to put on his resume.

    Thank you Gary for responding.

My friend unfortunetly has was fired recently due to the economy/downsizing. His specialty language is COBOL, so that limits his job opportunities.

My friend would like to take the coursework on JAVA and Visual Basic to increase his potential job opportunities. (He of course can't wait to complete the courses before applying for jobs now, but he hopes that they will increase his future prospects).

He wants to take the courses through a university because he learns best in a strucutred learning environment. He also wants to document having such training to potential employers.
