Looking up? Students are less prepared than ever and are increasingly unwilling to study. Faculty, especially at community colleges, are more overworked and get less support.

Sometimes ESL is through a non-credit division of a CC, so with a bachelor's degree, you might already be qualified.

    I second this advice!

I was fortunate to have my first full-time position at LCO Community College, a tribal community college in Northern Wisconsin. Over 6 years there, I learned a great deal on higher education, accreditation, program outcomes assessment, etc.

While I needed the PhD for my current position, there is no doubt that my experiences at LCO helped me land a tenure-track position, peer reviewer with the HLC and ACE, etc.

    Good luck!

I can attest to this article and idea above. As a current adjunct English instructor at a CC, I am astounded by how little effort many, many students put in. Frankly, there are a lot of students that are not taking their studies seriously, and do not deserve to be in any college. But, the gates of CC's are flung open wide to catch as many dollars as possible. Stranger still, I started my education at a CC just about 10 years ago, and the difference I see today in students then and now is as stark as day and night.
