In past few months, I read a thread here where someone offered to collaborate on a journal article, and that got me thinking. I was already a bit interested in a collab, and now I'm even more interested in finding someone to get started right away. I'm interested in the environmental science field.

I'd love tips on how I should network for this purpose. I'm thinking that I need to join an organization or two soon, but would like input on that too. I feel like it might only work if the organization has a forum or mailing list, so I can reach out to everyone that way?

It seems like so many people already have enough of a network. I figure that anyone in a B&M program (or recently graduated from one) would already have plenty of opportunities to team up. In fact, even if they graduated long ago enough, they could still reach out to alums. I don't feel that my past schools provide me with those opportunities.

If there's an author who keeps popping up on the papers you like, just reach out. Academics rarely have groupies, so that person will probably be happy to hear you out.
