I was talking to my counselor at Excelsior and he recommended that I take the College Algebra CLEP to finish off my Arts & Sciences requirements. I took Calculus I about 6 years ago and I'm currently working on a Discrete Mathematics course at Southwest Texas University San Marcos. I don't feel that college algebra will be too much of a challenge, but at the same time I want to ensure an A in order to raise my GPA. What free and/or cheap math resources can I use to brush up my algebra skills? What study resources did you use to take this test? Where can I find realistic practice exams for this test? Any recommendations? Thanks for your help, Brandon
Just to let you know, the search function on this page did not provide very much assistance. With the help of the google cache of this forum, I was able to find the following links, pages, FYIs etc for the college algebra CLEP. I haven't checked if they all work, but this is what I found so far. ...................................................... http://www.guidancenet.com/guidancenet/testprep.asp?sponsor=3519&tab=clep http://www.purplemath.com/ http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/sim-explorer/explore-items/-/0375761519/0/101/1/none/purchase/ref%3Dpd%5Fsxp%5Fr0/103-8442432-5720646 http://www.freeuniv.com/lect/algpage.html Technical Math Help http://www.technicalmath.com/ Calculus Math Help http://www.calc101.com Dr. Math: http://mathforum.org/ Algebra on-line: http://www.algebra-online.com http://www.mhhe.com/math/precalc/ba...ent_index.mhtml "I also took College Algebra. I worked through the Schaum's Outline by the same name to brush up on my algebra and found that the Shaum's more than prepared me for the test! If you had a couple years of Algebra in high school, you should just need to review the material. Otherwise, you will probably need some serious studying to do well." www.smarthinking.com http://www.learner.org/resources/series66.html http://math.about.com/library/mathfiles/bl050-toc.htm http://www.rio.maricopa.edu/service...rials/owl.shtml ...................................................... Do a search on this board for a thread I created called "free online courses". It contains numerous links for many different kinds of courses available online for free. One of the links listed in the thread is for "Math for Morons": http://library.thinkquest.org/20991/home.html Purple Math is a good one, too.
Most of the students I worked with at UOP found that the Princeton Review cracking the clep coupled with purplemath.com was enough to pass the test, but everyone is different, good luck!
