I moved to Canada recently and would love to try online teaching. I have a PhD in Computer Science (from Florida State University) and a permanent resident status in the country. Do you know of any schools hiring? I know only about the new Meritus University (Apollo Group project - brand new Canadian UoPx Online, www.meritusu.ca)

Stanislav, Most Canadian Universities are government based and have unions for faculty. Athabasca and other schools that offer online programs are good options but not so easy to get in because the unions. The good news is that salaries are far much better than American for profit schools. To give you an idea, a typical online course given at a Canadian University or College pays about 7K compared to the 2K that most Americans schools pay. In any case, if you would want to try your look I would suggest the following: Humber College George Brown College Algonquin College University of Ottawa There are plenty more options as the number of online courses keep growing. However, unions give preference to people with seniority and some to local residents only. My suggestion is to teach face to face in a school that offer online courses and then once you have some seniority try online courses. Just to give you an idea, one of the schools that I teach have online courses but they are very hard to get as the most senior instructors apply to them first and the chances to get them are slim.
It seems that New Brunswick is the new home of online universities in Canada. This province has been granting licenses to few online schools. Few more online schools that you might want to consider are: Yorkville Lansbridge These are online for profit so I would expect low pays.
Hi Stanislav, My family is also seeking opportunity to move to Canada, can you suggest some ways to get their. We know live in Ukraine and USA(I am finishing my degree in Biology). My husband is physicist. Thanks. Oksana
I applied for an "independent professional" immigrant visa. They changed the law recently, and I do not know details. It seems that the job market in US is substantially better than in Canada, so stay south if possible. If you come here, don't waste too much time on government-funded "employment consultants" - these programs are mostly useless. BTW, i did get into Meritus, Canada's own UoPx clone. I start my supervised teaching later this month.
