    Re: spelling and UNISA

UNISA is a well respected institution founded in the 1800's. A yahoo search will turn up references to US faculty and department heads with UNISA Ph.D.'s

Probably less prestigious but still equivalent of accredited is the University of Zululand through which you can do a D.Th. (around 2000 dollars for the entire program). They are very customer service oriented. There too you can complete the degree by doing a dissertation alone.

There are a number of other accredited South African institutions offering similar programs.

I agree with North. Fine place. As it happens, my only visit there was during apartheid times, and the Rector and other administrators were proud of the fact they had more black students and alumni than any university in the world, including a then-maximum-security-prisoner named Nelson Mandela. As the Rector said, then, with a twinkle in eye, "They give us much free rein, since they are well aware that, along with Christian Barnaard and Gary Player, we are probably the most positive South African concept on the world scene." (Also, the single most dramatic piece of academic architecture I've ever seen.)

    Thanks again Dr Bear.

I have emailed for info. The site is a little confusing to me but I think I'm getting some facts right. Dept of New Testament is very impressive!

Cost will be a factor but if I can hide from my wife my Social Security checks which begin this June maybe I can afford it.

    Regards,
