My wife is looking to get a Bachelor degree. She has an Associate in Applied Science in Radiologic Technology. She has 92 credit hours from a two year community college. I believe all of her hours would transfer. She is ARRT registered and certified in X-Ray, CT and Mammo. Since her registry she has accumulated well over 100 CEUs. She has worked in the field for almost ten years. Does anyone know of a distance school that offers a degree in some health science (preferrably related to radiologic technology) with the degree and certifications she has. I have ordered the student handbooks from TESC, COSC and Excelsior but they have not arrived yet so I don't know if they have a program that would meet her desire.
Excelsior has a particularly strong nursing program, but I can't remember if they have a program in radiologic technology. For some reason, I seem to remember reading that TESC has such a program, but I think it's a concentration within a human services major or something (it's been a while, and I can't be sure). Anyway, any of the three schools you mentioned -- TESC, COSC, or Excelsior -- should accept all 92 credits and award at least some credit for those certifications. The Medical College of Georgia also offers a "2+2" B.S. program in radiologic sciences (with five possible concentrations) that can be done entirely off-campus. Good luck! Thanks Tom! MCG offers the degree she would like to have. We looked at the curriculum for a BS in Radiography (http://www.mcg.edu/catalog/ahscatalog/radiologic_science/RSRTbacccurr.htm) and with her certifications she hopefully would not have to take courses for which she is already certified such as X-ray, CT and Mammo. Do you know if they will apply credit for the certifications? Also does anyone else know any other options?
Marion College in Wisconsin had a program. Last time I checked it was a BSRT completion program for certified rad techs. It may be site based and therefore it may not be want you need. You can find them at http://www.mariancol.edu One other thing, since the 92 hrs. mentioned were earned at a community college. If you find and choose a B.S. program you will need to insure that upper level coursework gets completed. John
COSC gives up to 33 credits for an AART certification under their "Special Assessments" $150.00 for the assessment of the certificate, a whole bunch less than trying portfolio assessments for the classes. All COSC degrees are General with a 'concentration" in your choice of subject. They will not give an individualized study in a field that has a degree (EX: Nursing) but you can do a individualized studies with a concentration in Radiology and Psychology as an example. Dan Snelson, CPO COSC student planned individualized studies degree with a concentration in Prosthetics/Orthotics and Business. Class of around July or so....
Dan Snelson, CPO COSC student planned individualized studies degree with a concentration in Prosthetics/Orthotics and Business. Class of around July or so....[/B][/QUOTE] At COSC, is it possible to have a cnocentration not listed? I noticed yours is Prosthetics/Orthotics... Thanks. Janna
Yes in deedy. My degree is listed as Individualized Studies with a concentration in Orthotics/Prosthetics and Business. I will need to Write a concentration proposal (as soon as I know how many credits for my P&O courses). What I cannot do is call it a concentration in Orthotics/Prosthetics because there are degrees in this subject. Your wife could transfer in the 90 (presuming they fit the COSC distribution requirements) depending on how the ARRT credits are awarded she will need up to 30 credits beyond the 2 year institution. obviously I am NOT a COSC employee and YOUR milege may vary. Dan Snelson COSC class of some time this summer
Thanks for the reply, Dan. I've just applied to COSC(transferring out from SUNY Empire State...although they have a great rep, can we say disorganized?! It's mid-March and they still haven't given me my grades from Fall!) so I have yet to hear back from them. Also, are you a double concentration? Is that possible? If so, I'm assuming you need twice the credits for a double concentration? That's really interesting. Why is it that you cannot call Orthotics/Prosthetics your concentration? I know they mentioned something regarding education, engineering, etc..but does Orthotics/Prosthetics also fall into that category? I'm just curious. Thanks for your time! Janna
What is Cosc? Is that Charter Oak State College? My husband is also looking to complete his Bachelor's Degree. He already has the AART and about 90 credit hours. Thanks.
Yes. Then as an alumnus, let me say that Charter Oak might be a great option for him. I sent in with about 70 credits of coursework and twelve of IT certifications, and finished up by taking mostly CLEP tests and a few online courses. -=Steve=-
How about this TESC BSHeS degree with an imaging sciences concentration http://www.tesc.edu/2313.php With your wife's experience she might be able to get some credit via portfolio.
