Can someone explain the attraction (success) of Brene Brown. I heard so much about her and people raving about her that I looked at some of her writing. To say it was underwhelming would be an understatement. Wasn't anything different than I have heard or read from any number of Life Coaches and pop Psychology types.

I expect that "It's not the idea, it's the execution" applies even more to gurus like that than it does to every other business.

Well, she was a #1 Best Seller 6 different times. The real key to her success is her material and delivery.

I tend to agree with Steve. It is probably her delivery and marketing. The material was a yawn (nothing new).

But some people like Tony Robbins, Joel Osteen and so on know how to market and reach people.

Her material is pithy and filled with personal anecdotes. Right up there with Mel Robbins and the "Five-Second Rule."

Interesting how people have different perspectives. Perhaps I am jaded by too much knowledge of the general area. I found nothing pithy or exciting. But, that you did and others do means that she is making a difference and her gig pays better than academia for sure.

But frankly, it is funny how often you read a quote by a Stoic philosopher and realize that you have heard some Life Coach or Pop Psychologist say the same thing. Either they lifted it, it is common insight, or supports Jungian notions of collective unconscious and universal archetypes.
