It could be easier or harder to do it this way for us. Liberty has custom books made for them so they are impossible to find online used. Liberty has LUBay which is where I purchased my books for my first two classes (supporting books are mainstream and easy to find). Either way, some of the books are very reasonable and some are very expensive ($200+) but the market is very limited to just what you can buy and sell at LUBay.

Gosh, I used to sell my books for profit all the time in undergrad. My wife used to always get mad at me for it! Essentially I'd buy my books online for super cheap and sell them back to the bookstore. Generally the bookstore would give you 50% of the "new" price. If I bought the book for less than that, which usually I did, and FAR less at that, I'd make a profit.

Oh man!! That's a bummer, I was getting excited. Custom books, why would they do that?

It's all about timing the market. If you put your books up for sale in the middle of a semester, obviously few people are going to be interested. If you list your books for sale IMMEDIATELY after you complete your course (provided it's semester-based), that is when zillions of students all across the nation are book shopping and demand is the greatest, thus you'll get the best price on your book sale.

You'll get the best deals on buying used textbooks during a semester term when no one's buying. You can even get a great deal if you buy one or two weeks prior to the semester ending and before the new semester begins.

    Timing is everything with this.

Thank you. I'm going to do this with all of my daughter's textbooks for sure. Guess it might not work as well for me, but I'll still try.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention....with Amazon you simply put your own price on the book. Amazon isn't set up for auctions like E-Bay is. It's very easy to come up with a price. You simply look through the other used book listings for the book you are trying to sell and price yours slightly less than the others (in the same condition) for a quick sell.

Yea, I didn't think Amazon had an auction feature. Very good, thanks.

I wonder if all of the Liberty programs use custom text books. I'm hoping that it's mostly just the program you are in.

I have bought books for 7 classes at LU, and none of them required custom books.

I am a big fan of using Amazon to buy used books. I regularly save hundreds of dollars this way.

That's really good news! This whole degree is out-of-pocket for me, so I'm really excited about the no or low cost textbook thing.

It isn't every one, but the ones that are custom are expensive. My first two classes required custom books. Go through the course guides for the program and you will see which ones that will be expensive because they will either have something with Christian in the title or will say (custom edition) in the title.
