    Bethany Divinity College and Seminary

    I am looking for an inexpensive education from a fundamental, Christian bible college. I have taken a look at Bethany's web site and find it to be very reasonably priced. However, I read the past posts, and I am concerned about the quality of the school. Does anyone know if the school has full time resident students, or is it primarily a distance learning institution? I realize the school is not accredited, but I already have my Associate's, Bachelor's and Master's degrees from regionally accredited traditional schools. I looked at Liberty in Virginia and Calvary Baptist Seminary in Pennsylvania. These look like much better schools, but they are much more expensive. I really don't want to rack up college bills all over again. I am not interested in the ministry, just a good learning experience. I also looked at Liberty's home study program which is very inexpensive and awards 24 credit hours at completion. I don't want to put my time and money into something that will be considered a joke.

    I suspect you will be better served by the two other schools you mention. You might also consider American Christian College & Seminary (DL) in Oklahoma City--although it might be to your left as a fundamentalist. If you search this site you will find a lot of discussion of Bethany at Dothan. It has an enthusiastic flack (you will see who it is). Its founder has been very critical of at least one accrediting agency. Some of us are skeptical of those criticisms. Read the material on other threads. I am sure that many posters will be happy to respond to further questions.

    BTW, there is no connection of any kind between Bethany in Dothan, Alabama (non-accredited) and Bethany in Richmond, Indiana--formerly in Oak Brook, Illinois (ATS accredited).

    What degree level are you considering? B, M or D?

    I highly recommend Liberty's programs, although as an M.Div. student there I am biased. Given what you have said of your background, I also recommend Temple Baptist Seminary of Chattanooga, Tennessee. They are affiliated with Highland Park Baptist Church.

    As a TRACS accredited school, Temple Baptist Seminary should have financial aid available. This also applies to ACCS.

    Best wishes,

    Have you looked at South African Theological Seminary? It has a very resonably priced program and I think their theological bent would fit in with yours. And the enrollment process there is almost too simple.

    From which non-RA school in Florida did Dr. Peppler, president of SATS, get his doctorate?

    Check out Grace Theological Seminary

    Check out:

    www.grace.edu

    Then click on "Seminary Programs" in the drop down menu.

    They have a distance ed Masters that only requires 32 semester hours. The school is also regionally accredited and evangelically conservative.

    ======

    Peppler also has a UZ doc.

    Peppler has three (3) doctorates (according to the SATS website):

    Th.D., International Theological Seminary, www.its.edu

    Ph.D., Newport University, www.newport.edu

    D.Th., University of Zululand

    Perhaps the first two have posed no problem with SATS or UZ since the last one is from UZ.

    ======

    I have it on good authority that the school is I.T.S.:rolleyes:

    At least I.T.S. "will not compromise the Biblical message" by seeking accreditation!??

    It is secular accreditation which ITS will not compromise the biblical message over. ITS enjoys accreditation by the world's largest non-governmental accreditor--ACI. www.accreditnow.com

    As the Ashleys used to say on Recess......eewwwww scandalous.

    I am glad to see that ITS would not wish to bring discredit upon Christian education and so they achieved prestigious accreditation by the world's largest non governmental agency. Ahhhh brings back memories of the tin Morgan building and the picture of two very elderly ladies and Scheel in front of some public building (a library?)....we know it was not a school ACI accredited unless it was renting space. I wondered were they supposed to be the accreditation team??

    Scheel was working on an OGS DPhil which looked promising as OGS was expected to gain TRACS candidacy (apparently never did). That would have given him an accredited doctorate. Poor Scheel.

    Any idea how much income ACI generates? Maybe me, Unk, Bill, and Russell could start our own agency. How would we ever agree on a doctrinal statement though :D

    It appears from past threads that you guys would recommend Luther Rice. They have an MA in biblical studies, their tuition appears to be quite reasonable, and they are TRACS accredited.
