Dovetailing your examples Bill, 10 of these universities are NOT the Texas A&M University (College Station, TX) in reputation; they are member institutions within /under the A&M system /umbrella – all with their own admissions criteria, reputations, administration, faculties, research, programmatic accreditations, etc.

The Texas A&M University System (11 Universities):

    Texas A&M University
    West Texas A&M
    Prairie View A&M
    Texas A&M-Commerce
    Texas A&M-Kingsville
    Tarleton State
    Texas A&M-Central Texas
    Texas A&M-Texarkana
    Texas A&M-San Antonio
    Texas A&M-International
    Texas A&M Corpus Christi

I just didn’t want to leave the readers with only the University of Texas System …;)
However, the most significant was your initial remark pertaining to ethics!

    1. Completely agree.
    2. Lowell's a better engineering school, especially plastics engineering and puts out a lot of good engineers across disciplines.
    3. There's a lot of pride to be had in having any degree that's properly accredited and rigorous. I think that gets missed a lot in these discussions we have.

    agree and disagree

I've worked for major corporations, non profits and for the government. I've seen hundred of graduate resumes come across my desk for review.

When examining a resume an administrator takes the following steps.

    1. Prior work experience verification.
    2. Personal history, crimes and misdemeanors.
    3. Education

Work experience trumps that of almost anything on a resume. If you have 10-20 years of work experience it just doesn't matter which campus you attended of a state university.

In the event you have less than 10 years of work experience which campus you attend of a state university still does not matter.

The only way I can honestly see it making a difference is if you utilize the flag ship campus's network. Other then that HR personnel do not check to see which campus you attended. Its just not relevant to the hiring or promoting process.

Example: A resume states the following.

    Work experience 5 years.

    BA College of NJ
    BA Thomas Edison State
    MA Thomas Edison State
    MBA Rutgers

    1. This profile's quanitative factors tell me the reviewer the following.

    A. This person is very educated holding four degrees.
    B. An MBA from Rutgers is a very highly touted degree. I would not conduct a background check as to the campus. (transcript requests would reveal this anyway, but its still makes no difference in the hiring process because an MBA from Rutgers s an MBA Rutgers).
    C. In relation to work experience this individual has more education then work experience which tells us that this individual will likely spend more time on education and less time on work.(negative).
    D.
