I just wanted to say thanks to all those on this board. Due to the information provided here, and the great comments and advice, I enrolled in school (Western Governors University) and am pursuing my BSc. after 25 years. This week I finished the introductory course. I doubt that without the information I was able to find here I would have pursued it, and even if I had, I doubt I would have found the WGU program which suits my particular needs very well. Again, thanks to all here. DegreeInfo is an invaluable resource. Trevor
Good for you! If you haven't done it before, you are going to enjoy online classes. Be prepared to do a lot of work. Am I correct to say that WGU is both regionally accredited and DETC accredited? If you use the "Bold" button at the top of your window, you will avoid the crazy links
At one point in time WGU was regionally accredited by all four regional bodies and the DETC. At this point they are accredited by the North Central body and DETC. I think at some point they got tired of maintaining all of the separate audits.
Thank you all very much. Michael, Yes, WGU is accredited Regionally, Nationally, and by the DETC. And no, I've never done online classes before. But, that's part of what I got out of this board - information on what to expect, which was a big part of me finally making the decision.
Hello Trevor, Congratulations on taking that first step toward your goal. While I do not have any personal experience with Western Governors University, I have only heard and read very good things about them. I was in your shoes not all that long ago as I started my online education back in May of 2008 after 27 years away from my initial attempt at college. After finishing up my bachelor's degree, I am now six classes away from completing my MBA and have no regrets regarding the online experience. I believe you will learn to love it. Best of luck to you in your academic journey. Rich
Yes, the guys around here are great at motivating learners. When I started here in 98, Degreeinfo.com was just a dream. Back then it was alt.education.distance. I had almost enrolled in a State only accredited school. Dr. John Bear and Dr. Steve Levicoff personally steered me straight and within a year and a half I had completed my AAS with Regents College USNY, (now Excelsiors) and a BS w/ Charter Oak. I recently enrolled in the Western Governors MBA-IT program and will Start Education Without Borders this Sunday. If I like it, I l also pursue another Masters through WGU. I wish you the best of luck. Your post is an inspiration to us all.
