Wish I'd known that about 10 speed--paid extra for next day delivery last week--still waiting. Dumb.

Is the Bear Guide only available through mail order? I have tried to get in in several local book stores with no luck.

It will be available, but may not be yet. The 15th Edition was only released a few weeks ago. Try ordering directly from Amazon or Barnes/Noble.

Give us the name of the bookstores. I’ll send Rocco over to take care of it. ;) :D

As it happens, Dennis, I usually have a litre or two (of gas, sometimes diesel too) kicking around the garage. I can give you every assurance that I do not charge a $ 10 inconvenience and extortion fee because I actually like the idea of tourists thinking good things about my community if I do something to help them out.

Question: Is the Bear Guide only available through mail order? I have tried to get in in several local book stores with no luck.

Answer: Every author wants there to be stacks of books in the windows of every bookstore. The reality is that Ten Speed prints about 10,000 copies of Bears' Guide at a time, and there are something like 35,000 big b ookstores in America (and 50,000+ small ones), so the odds of finding it on a shelf are depressingly low.

However, the two major wholesalers (Ingram and Baker & Taylor) both have it on their 'A' list, meaning they keep it on hand in all their warehouses, and theoretically can supply it to any bookstore within 2 days.

On another hand, Amazon is discounting it a great deal -- more than ever before,I think -- so even adding in shipping (and subtracting sales tax, I think), one saves nearly ten bucks buying it there.

And then of course you can march into your public library and pound the desk (softly) and demand that they order it.

My copy of BG 15 arrived yesterday, courtesy of our fine friends at Amazon.com. On the website it said that I would receive it in 9-12 days, but it only took 5.

Since I am citing Bears' Guide in my dissertation, I am now having to go back and cange all of those (Bear & Bear, 2001) references to (Bear and Bear, 2003). I've already used it today to counsel a teacher at my children's school who is interested in a degree via DL.

    Kudos to you, Dr. Bear!

    Slightly OT: Calling Mr. White

    Howdy.

I'm having a bit of trouble verifying the status of my book order from THIS (http://www.degreeinfo.com/order.html) web site. I've tried contacting Mr. White/"[email protected]" without success. Is he away? If so, how dare he! Just because he receives no pay for operating this forum doesn't mean he's allowed to have a personal/business life! If he's not away, and not too busy, perhaps someone with ready access to him -- a Gang-of-Six'er? -- might ask him to contact me?

    Thanks in advance!

    Cordially,

Wow, Tony! I paid for next day delivery and it only took ten speed six days!

I did eventually stop at 7:00AM at Lanigan, the biggest dot on the map between Saskatoon and Yorkton. Three gas stations and they all had line-ups and all opened at precisely 9:00AM.

There are now places open at night. I went to a funeral in Roblin, not far from you, last Spring.
