First for the bad... Yesterday afternoon, I was planning on taking both the Human Growth and Development exam and the English Composition (with Essay) CLEP exams. First, I took the Human Growth and Development. The only guide I used to study for this test was the guide I had purchased on EBay (which might explain something) as it didn't have EVERYTHING that I needed to know. On some of the questions, I was able to quickly breeze through (and I felt some of the others were easy enough to figure out without study)....but I thought some of those questions were tough (espescially with no study). I failed the exam with a 48.... Next, I took the English Composition with Essay CLEP and thought it was cake. I didn't receive my score back instantly, but I'm figuring that was a pretty easy pass. If the results were as good as I think they probably are, I will sign up for my CLEP exams (espescially six-credit hour exams). I had both of those scores sent to Charter Oak State College. I was really discouraged with the Human Growth and Development CLEP results (but some informed me it was one of the toughest exams). Regardless, I guess we all got individual talents and psychology must not be one of mine. Plus, I have already taken Understanding Human Behavior....so, had I passed, it might have just duplicated itself. By the time I sign up for the next set of exams, I will have my official review from Charter Oak. I was told that ENG103 (Writing In Today's World) would likely only count for an elective (by the person I spoke to), so I went ahead and took the CLEP for that area. Cade
A suggestion: Under Excelsior's recommendation, I by-passed this exam for the Ed Psych CLEP and the DANTES in Lifespan Development. I passed the latter using only Cliff's Notes Quick Review "Developmental Psychology" by George Zgourides and the glossary from the best college-level textbook I could find. Perhaps this alternative is acceptable to COSC? --Orson
