At an school like aspen, or similar types of DETC online schools what sort of salary range would one expect? p/h , and how many hours could you work in a month. If you are paid by student, would this be a monthly fee? (I searched the site and saw a post with $100 per student). Is being paid by student typical in tbis industry?

I've used the search function on site but not been able to find much else.
    Thanks
    Andy

$1,500 - $1,800 per class is about normal and you may put in anywhere from 2-8 hours a week per class. It all depends on the class, what the topic of the week is for the class (some are more demanding then others), how many students are in the class, and how many times you taught it. I have been teaching the same classes for about 3 years so I know what the students will say/ask and where the common issues are.

    Does that help?

I'm not sure what the average rate is, as I only teach for one school. I teach 12 week courses, and am paid $135 per student. My courses range from 20 - 30 students. This is a very "hands-on" school, requiring plenty of interaction with the students.

    Hope this helps!

Hi, ignore my ignorance. By class do you mean for the year? or for the semester ? (how many classes would one student have in a year) - sorry I am more familiar with the European system than the US.

Thanks. So how many weeks out of the year would the students study for (assuming summer/christmas break) 12 x 3? or 12 weeks x 4 ?

$15 per hour is about the lowest you can expect, when you fully burden your time with preparation, meetings and training.

A good pizza delivery guy can almost beat the average online teacher, so are you thinking about getting into online teaching?

That is per class per semester. There are eight 5.5 week semesters for one school I teach for an four 12 week semesters for another school.

In the school with 12 week semester, I get 3-4 classes per semester so that equals 4 (semesters per year) X 3 (classes per semester) X $1,800 (salary per class) = $21,600 per year. Does that help and make sense?
