Wow, a DETC school that requires proctored exams when many of the RA schools do not. Yet one more bit of evidence that Aspen is a cut above.

Proctored exams do not equal rigor. We don't know the content of the exams, either.

You are absolutely right. We don't have any idea of the quality involved but Aspen is at least doing proctored exams. (I have not verified this, I'm taking the OP's word, which I'm sure is good) I have often thought that, even though they are an absolute pain to take and to administer, proctored exams would be a benefit to many DL schools for verification of student honesty. Also, that practice should eventually bolster the reputation of DL in general.

Quite true. I started a whole thread on my proctored exam experience so it should be easy to locate if the OP wants to. I took a cart to lug all my textbooks in to the College proctoring center. I had about 50-60 books that I took. You are given 3.5 or 4hrs (I can't remember for sure) since you are not told ahead of time what you will be tested on. Doesn't sound to bad? Guess what? You have to select three essays to write from a Harvard business journal type questionnaire. The essays must be 10-12 pages in length, and the content must be known and precisely explained/illustrated. How is this measured? Aspen checks for the quality of the answers, examples, citations, and the test taker must demonstrate expertise in business subject matter/theory. You either know it or you don't. So basically, if you write a bunch of nice sounding fluff, you fail! Writing three essays may sound easy, but let me assure you, to answer the questions fully/completely, 4 hours is BARELY enough time.

So yes, I can answer the rigor question with authority. HELL yes it is rigorous! However, things like these are what make Aspen stand out. You will receive a good education. The teachers at the grad level must hold PhD's to meet Aspen's requirements. The best money I have ever spent.

    Abner :)

P.S. you must take two or three forms of ID's to prove you are really the student/test taker. These test must selected from the Aspen list of approved colleges and unis.

See, it's stuff like that which keeps me interested in Aspen. I'll bet it's not too long until they achieve RA status. There is no way to know when, or even if this will happen, but students like yourself will benefit hugely for the fact that you paid such a low price for a great education. I still think about starting their EdD program, who knows, it could become RA before I'm done.

For the cost of the Aspen EdD and your precise situation (previously explained), the EdD would work great for you, without getting into debt (no brainer). I have always paid my own way for my education, however, I have never had a single student loan. The ROI of my low priced education has been phenomenal.

question on proctored exams at aspen

I read some of the posts. Someone mentioned that there were 3 questions. Is this the midterm or the final exam? Or both?
If each answer consisted of approx 10 pages for each question, was the final exam really 30 pages long? How does one type/write 30 pages (single line?) in 4 hrs? Also, when answering the questions, did you have to make a citation for each statement (with bibliography, etc)? Thanks

Caluniversity (NA) has two proctor exams for its DBA program that I have completed. Here is the requirement:

The time duration for each CCA Exam is four hours (240 minutes) without any interruption or time-out. Each CCA exam contains 40 multiple choice questions and three essay questions. The Exam at the LearnCenter will shut down at the conclusion of that time period. The Proctor, if needed, will stop the continuation of the exam taking at the conclusion of 4 hours exam period.
Three essay questions are to be answered. Each essay should be at least 350 words, double spaced. Include examples to illustrate your points.

    For anyone needs to know.

    Proctored exams at Aspen

I was wondering if someone from Aspen University, preferably from the MBA program, could clarify my prior question. Thanks to all.

Sorry, I'm not that computer literate. What is a PM, and how do I do that? Thanks

To be honest your description of the exam would put me off attending Aspen (unless the exam counted for a small fraction of the course pass score).
I could accept this as a take home exam (heck I spent 20 hours on my MAS meteorolgy course unproctored take-home final) but to complete in 4 hours sounds more like a marathon race as much as a test of ones knowledge.
I am a good paper writer but it takes me time (heck I type with one finger).

Yikes, you must be brilliant to do well with that handicap! You should get Mavis Beacon typing, it's a fantastic typing program and it will have you using at least two fingers in no time! :)

A Private Message is the email system within DegreeInfo. Just follow the directions that b4cz28 provided. You can access a PM sent to you by clicking the "Private Messages" link in the top right corner of your window. Scroll to the top right of this page and you will see it. Don't worry about little experience with computers, we were all there at one time.

Thanks guys. I think I PM'd him. But just in case, if there is anyone else out there who took the proctored exams at Aspen University MBA, I would appreciate your responses. Thanks to all...

But I have to agree with the recent post by Ian Anderson, that any midterm or final exam which consists of 30-40 pages of writing (in 4 hrs, no less) will definitely turn-off any potential candidate.

take what Abner says with a grain of sault. Not even Harvard grad can do 4 pages in an hour. He must be typing slangs.

    Are slangs like slings?
