Her name was Andrea Arroyo. She was very friendly until I told her I didn't think Ashford was the right school for me and then the claws came out. The school is owned by a business and is a for profit school. They insist that you buy your books from them and not over the internet where they would be cheaper. My sister got into a situation like this with Phoenix on line. She felt like she really got ripped off on the price they charged her for books she really didn't even need.

    UPDATE ON ASHFORD:

I sent Sonya an email outlining this thread and my concerns. I was looking for some feedback.

What I got was nothing... I am not impressed and will not be attending this college. The funny thing is, before I read this thread I was a going to go with them.

It is an older RA school which is nice. They have short classes (5 weeks) and 99% of their Mids and finals are taken online. Lots of positives if you ask me. I can't get over that "other" things though. I have to TRUST my school..

Oh well, the search continues, but...

ELLIS College of NYIT has become a VERY interesting prospect.

Their degree is conferred from The New York Institute of Technology, which is quite nice.

I am still trying to figure out the Behavioral Sciences and the Psychology connection? Is PSYCH the minor and Behavioral Sciences the major??

A BS in Psychology is the direction I am wanting to go in..

I don't know how many hours you have to transfer, but Charter Oaks is looking pretty good to me. They don't have a limit on how many hours can be transfered, so I think I will be out pretty quick. I am very close to sending them my matriculation fee.

I have taken a few classes there (COSC) and they are pretty good. Great customer service too!

The only issue I have is that they don't offer Major(s) but a Concentration..

That is my only reason for not going with them....

Is that a problem? Do you think not having a major makes one look less educated? I hope not because I am looking at getting out in months instead of a year.

A degree from COSC will be in individual studies, with a concentration in whatever.

The COSC concentration requires a comparable amount of credits to a major. You should have no problem representing your degree as a Bachelor of Arts or Science with a [fill in the blank] concentration or concentration in [fill in the blank] .

    You'll be fine.

    JLS,

    1) For me, it would be a problem.

    2) No one was saying that a COSC student would be " Less educated" with a BSGS degree. Actually, it never entered my mind(or anyone else's I bet), until you said it

    3) It's a personal preference.

Again, love the school don't like the concentration(s) vs major(s) model they use.

Best of luck with your studies.:D

    JLS,

    Good luck with COSC.

If you decide that having a Major is important to you, then check out Excelsior College.

My buddy in the Navy graduated from National U. He loved the 5 week courses! Short courses are the BEST!

    independent study

I am trying to matriculate through COSC and and looking for courses that I can enroll and take at any time. Other than LSU, does anyone know which campuses offer independent study?

A warning signal for me would be the fact you can't find the tuition costs on the website! I personally find this infuriating.

Not that I'm considering going there. But the fact you can't find it without a sales pitch would make me think strongly about looking elsewhere!

"How much does the online degree program cost?

The affordable cost per credit hour is less than most traditional private universities and colleges. Ask an Enrollment Advisor for details."

How about Columbia College of MO?

    http://www.ccis.edu/online/

They accepted my AA from Santa Rosa Junior College in CA for transfer and it fullfilled the general ed. requirements.

They have a maximum on transfer of military transfer equivalence credits, but they consider anything from CCAF as traditional college credits. They accepted a total 165 credits from my various sources.
