AS to BS? COSC or ?

    Hi everyone. I am terrible with all humanities subjects with maybe the exception of art, so I have a bit of a dilemma. I am interesed in getting first an AS and eventually a BS in Psycology(to avoid taking a lot of the humanities Dantes/Clep tests). Is this possible?
    I am thinking about COSC, but I find the course distribution funky. Is there another distance school where I can not only go from an AS to BS but that also takes GRE? -BTW Regents/Xcelsior is not an option. That name!!!Geeeeeez

    Don't rule Excelsior out. Excelsior means "Ever Upward" which is the New York State motto.

    an Excelsior grad. We just say Regents/Excelsior so readers will know that it is the same institution.

    Traci, I can only speak definitively for Excelsior (sorry ;-) but I would hazard that for any RA Associate degree you will need somewhere around 9 credit-hours of Humanities. I also am weak in this area but have resigned myself to buckling down and taking at least one exam to fill this subject.

    Art can get you partially there (3 hrs), as possibly can a few other subjects that might be a bit less painful for you personally (Ethics, World Religions, Composition). A good CLEP score (A) on a foreign language may well satisfy the entire requirement. I would suggest that you peruse the student guides of institutions that you are considering with a view towards the easiest way to satisfy this section of coursework, but I would also suggest that since I doubt it is possible to avoid it entirely you not base your institution selection completely on this one subject.

    Lastly, using Excelsior as an example, you could pick up 3 credit-hours by passing the DANTES Art of the Western World examn for a letter grade, then 6 credit-hours by gritting your teeth <g> and taking the CLEP Humanities General (pass/fail so a low score will not hurt you transcript-wise) or the CLEP American Lit or some such. Depending on the institution, you might get by with CLEP Freshman College Comp or the CLEP English Comp General Exam to fill in the add'l 6 hrs. Not all that bad....
