From a link at the Chronicle of Higher Education

"The radical right-wing activist Max Eden, whose roadmap for destroying America’s colleges Trump seems to be following, salivates at the idea of the Education Department using its power to destroy SACSCOC. Eden claims that the accreditor “has been perhaps the most offensive and pro-DEI of all the accreditors.”

"A denial of SACSCOC’s request to renew its recognition, if the education secretary, Linda McMahon, takes that route, would be an outrageous and costly move, the first steps of a sad and crippling descent into tyranny. We should know the outcome by early June."

The Southern Association also is the one that has de accredited a number of Historically Black Colleges (Southern Association accredits the majority of HBCUs). One college (I believe Bennett) got their accreditation revoked and denied appeal after raising millions to meet the accreditors requirements. They remain accredited pending a lawsuit.

Well, which is it? Are they soulless minions of DEI orthodoxy or are they nefarious oppressors of HBCUs?

Um, we report and you decide. If I were the Trump administration and planning to deny renewal I would probably play both angles demonstrating that they were overly focused on non academic DEI and woke initiatives while education suffered and were also oppressing HBCUs and being unfair (perhaps press the religious angle of some of the HBCUs). Concerned with the treatment of faith based schools who played such a huge role in lifting the African American community and inspiring generations.
