Are there CLEPs DANTES Straiterline etc., for UK and/or Canada?

Also what do we collectively call these exams and institutions which offer these educational services that are worth college/university credits?

I'm still kind of new to the game, so I need to know :D

Informally, usually "alt-credit", but there's no official word AFAIK.

Ahhhhh okay. Yeah it's quite a foreign concept for me until I started hitting up this and the sister forum.

We used to call CLEP, DSST, and other exams CBEs (credit-by-exam) because that's what colleges would call them. Now, the acronym is associated with competency-based education. Michigan Tech calls them non-collegiate sources of credit. There was a now defunct Alternative Credit Project via ACE that included courses from Straighterline and the like.

The term I hate that is used by Liberty and Purdue Global is "life experience credit." Life experience degrees used to be synonymous with diploma mills.

Agreed. It's also needlessly easily confused with credit by portfolio, an entirely different process.

One reason I like "alt-credit" is that if there are going to be 94 terms for the same thing, one may as well use the shortest. ;)
