Thanks James, and you are quite correct, this will determine the legitimacy of the current Buxton University vs. the 80's version of Buxton University College. I have contacted Dr Hicks and I am sure the relevant information will be forthcoming. Cheers, George..who is currently enjoying a lovely couple of weeks in sunny Hong Kong
I wasn’t sure, but that’s what I thought you meant. Your post is proof positive that either you know absolutely nothing about the degree mill from which you purchased your degree (Buxton University), or you are a con man attempting to deceive others. In early March of this year (see this post) I contacted Dr. Hicks concerning Buxton University. He explained that no such entity existed; it was a complete fabrication solely for the purpose of a case study. Quite frankly, Mr. Hogan, like so many shills and degree mill owners before you, your own posts and comments are what inflict the most damage to the entity you are trying to promote.
Exactly and part of the reason that I find this hobby so entertaining. BTW Mr. Hogan, note that Gus linked to a post that is in the beginning of the "big" Buxton University thread. You know that one that the vast majority of your degreeinfo posts have been in and the thread that apparently interested you in joining our little community. Did you just not read that post or is there another explanation?
Professor Richard Hicks is now Head of Psychology at Bond University. I believe, George, that he will tell you exactly what he told me back in March of this year (see this post on the thread entitled “Buxton University: has anyone heard of it”). Here is the complete text of the email I sent him on March 4, 2004. Subject: Question about one of your publications Professor Hicks: I am looking for information on an institution named Buxton University. One of the very few mentions (after an exhaustive Internet search) is a paper you co-authored in 1987 entitled "Review of a Department (of Psychology) at Buxton University College: Directions and Materials." Is there any assistance you could provide me? Do you know the current (or previous) location of this institution? Did it, by any chance, change names? Would you happen to have their current contact information? Any information would be extremely helpful. In advance, I thank you for your attention to this matter. Sincerely, Gus Sainz As I am quite certain he won’t mind me posting this, here is the complete text of his reply (received on March 4, 2004). RE: Question about one of your publications: Buxton University ... Hi Gus Hmm, one of our old papers has come back to revive us! Gus, the paper was a report on the use of the "Buxton University Psychology Department" as a CASE STUDY (we developed VERY extensive data) that I and colleagues from the School of Business QUT prepared for the Senior Staff Conference and Workshop of QUT (Queensland University of Technology). The University never existed, though we didn't advise the university-wide Senior Staff of this beforehand, as it would have lead perhaps to less "real" treatment of the issues. QUT was then looking at rationalising a number of Schools and Departments, had a number of new Heads, and was wanting increased development of staff in what issues should be addressed in "re-organising departments" and how these should be "managed". Does this help? I'm happy to talk further with you about the outcomes of the workshop, but the University itself didn't exist. Kind regards Dick Professor Richard Hicks Head of Psychology Bond University [emphasis added] In other words, Dr. Hicks’ publications are not proof or corroboration that Buxton University is a legitimate university. Instead, they prove the opposite; Buxton University is a complete fabrication.
Seems like a strong argument that those people claiming they studied at Buxton University years ago are ... ah ... mistaken?
Let's not mix apples with cauliflowers: you can't add apples to cauliflowers. ONE ISSUE pertains to "uneducated" ( officially without a "recognized" degree ) people to produce good work and/or to work hard for it. that is entirely possible, on an individual basis. ANOTHER ISSUE pertains to establishing an equation between degree mills' ( and even non-accredited or borderline accredited ) and duly accredited institutions' degrees. "diploma" comes from greek ( folded paper ): anybody can buy A+ paper & print whatever on it. That doesn't mean they will be eligible for Ph.D enrolment at "traditional" institutions; nor that they will be able to list that "achievement" on a CV that is being carefully examined. So one could have worked hard, produced work, and he could have as well have awarded himself a "diploma" to celebrate the event.
