    There is no such thing.
This status has not prevented diploma mills from operating, nor has it shielded their customers from negative consequences. There have been many cases of people getting into lots of trouble with degrees from schools with a legal right to operate.
Until they come under any form of scrutiny. Then it all falls apart. And that's the point here: use them in ways that minimize the risk. Not exactly a ringing endorsement.
It is the public sector--particularly the civil service and the military--who is much more accepting of degrees from non-RA-but-accredited schools. For example, degrees from DEAC-accredited schools have always been recognized by the military and eligible for tuition assistance.
I have no idea what this means, nor what "generally accepted" means.

In the private sector, away from structured analyses and review processes, degrees from unrecognized sources have as their basis for "acceptance" an ignorance of those systems and processes. This is the reason diploma mills exist, and why unrecognized schools can operate. Employers, customers, clients, etc. often don't know and don't care. But John Bear used to remind us of two things. First, be very sure--as sure as you can be--that the degree you seek will meet both your current AND your future needs. Second, getting a degree from a dodgy source is like putting a time bomb in your resume. You never know when it will explode and what damage it will do.

IABP sponsors quite a few schools, including Edgewood College of California, a school accredited by both QAHE and ASIC, https://ecc.education/accreditation/

Facultywise, there's little difference between Edgewood and American Management University and the office manager of Edgewood is also the registered agent for the International Alliance of Business Professionals.

Other schools sponsored by the IABP are Orange County University, https://ocu.university/, California Metropolitan University,https://cmu.ac/, William University, https://william.edu.eu/. There's also Morrison University, with a defunct website, and Southern Valley University, the website is quite fishy so no link.

In Pakistan, there's an organisation offering an MBA to individuals who are members of the IABP. US degree equivalency provided by California University FCE.

Wow! All of the schools along with IABP are located in California too.

California has almost no mechanisms for dealing with unaccredited schools operating from there. I got sued by one. (I won.)

IARC/NIARS isn’t one of the more well-known accrediting bodies, so it’s good to be cautious. Accreditation from a Kyrgyzstan agency might not carry the same weight as something from a recognized US agency.

There's not a sliding scale. Either an institution is properly recognized or it is not. For U.S. institutions, that's recognized (by CHEA or the USDoE) accreditation. For foreign degrees being put to use in the U.S., this largely falls to foreign credential evaluators.

I have to walk this one carefully because of recency but...

I am personally aware of an instance where a manager terminated a HES graduate for "lying" about having a Harvard degree.

It is impossible to say what a manager will or will not do. I have seen them vigorously defend the holder of diploma mill degrees or even credentials they lied about having from real schools. Meanwhile, I've also seen (at least one) fire the graduate of an Ivy League university because they don't understand how schools within a University work. There was a gentleman who made a 23 year career as an instructor at a small for-profit vocational school off of his A.S., B.S. and M.S. all from Alameda University. And I've also had to pull someone out of new hire orientation to let them know that we were terminating them because the time bomb on their resume went off that morning.

Sometimes, just for fun, I go on LinkedIn and see what the graduates of Atlantic International University are up to.

That .edu can cause a lot of questions to never be asked, unfortunately.

So is this legal? Maybe. If you sent it to WES would it be recognized? I don't know. But let's say the answer is Yes to both. For every 5 employers who just let it slide and check the box, there will be at least one who questions why a school accredited in Kyrgyzstan is not located in Kyrgyzstan and why a person who has never been to Kyrgyzstan has a degree from there.

Penn Foster is going to fly under so many more radars than something like this. Even if cleared at every level of scrutiny the obvious question to an employer is simply "Why that school?" Why did you go to the far reaches of the planet to earn a degree? This isn't like a U.K. doctorate or even a Spanish propio where an interesting story can be spun easily. Degree from an obscure school, an interestingly misleading name, in a country most people don't think about? Your mileage may vary. But I wouldn't want to go on a road trip riding that one.

Just an update from AMU on LinkedIn....

AMU will be looking to launch the College of Professional Studies in San Bernardino, California very soon.

The CPS will be our headquarters for the Qualifi accredited diploma programs. Some of our programs will include:

    Level 4 and 5 Business Management (1st and 2nd Year Bachelor's)
    Level 4 and 5 Psychology (1st and 2nd Year Bachelor's)
    Level 6 Business Administration (3rd Year Bachelor's)
Level 7 Psychology (Graduate Level Credits)
Level 7 Business Strategy (Graduate Level Credits)
Level 8 Strategic Management and Leadership (Doctoral Level Credits)

Plus all diplomas have fully accredited UK diplomas that a student can transfer to for online degree options. Nobel University in Buena Park also is a transfer partner for those looking to finish up with a US accredited degree. We are still on the lookout for additional partners. All Qualifi diploma transcripts can be sent to WES or another NACES agency for US college credits.

Another exciting option is an accelerated pathway to becoming a lawyer. You can complete your Level 4 and 5 Diploma in Law with AMU, then transfer to University of Central Lancashire for your 3rd year to earn your LLB online. Then you can apply for an LLM with an ABA approved school to be eligible to sit for the California State Bar Exam (Rule 4.30).

Personally, I don't think AMU is worth it, even though they are partners with an NA institution (Nobel University) through TRACS. Their tuition might be affordable, but there are even more affordable options available that are RA... Nobel reminds me so much of IAULA, both are TRACS and have partnerships with lesser known institutions, they also offer similar programs as well.

Oh and in regards to laddering up with a law degree, you can skip AMU and go for those level 4/5 from other course providers, it'll ladder up to the same University of Central Lancashire LLB
