A 1099 is not required in order for earned income to be required to be reported. There is generally no minimum amount that must be reported as income.

Generally, the way to report income from self-employment (such as your living room book dealing business) is on a schedule C with self-employment tax on schedule SE.

Remember though -- income from items sold which were your property in use (such as a textbook you used in a class and then sold) is not the same as income derived from a business.

Caution! I am not an accountant or an attorney. If you need the advice of one -- you should consult one. :)

I have found Alibris.com to be especially helpful in buying out of print books. (My favorite kind)

I would like to thank the person, here at Degreeinfo, that recommend Half.com some time ago when I was whining about the cost of books. Using Half.com has saved me quite a bit.

I'd bet that your savings approximate 50%.

I'm guessing it has been over 75% vs. the cost of new books.
