Okay, but I'm confused about something. . . when looking at Athabasca's pages, it seems they have a 30 credit residency requirement. . . am I missing something?

From what I remember the guy telling me, I believe (but admit I don't know for sure) that while they have a three year BGS, that all of their other Bachelor's programs are four year ones, and that the requirement you see refers only to the latter.

    Steve,

The 30 credit residency (not on campus, just 30 credits through Athabasca) applied to all degree programs, except for the three year BGS program. You may transfer all of your credits (and apparently some CLEP examps) towards the program. They actually do offer a number of other three year degree programs. The three year programs are concentrations, while the four year programs are majors. Here is the link to their programs page:

    Thanks

    Okay, that makes sense.

Thanks. I'd looked at their pages a little bit but somehow it got jumbled for me. I do like the idea of a seemingly respected (and RA) Canadian program that can grant 3-year degrees through assessment. Currently I'm working through Charter Oak for my A.S., but I might look at Excelsior or Athabasca for the BA.

The emphasis was added by me. Athabasca University is the leading distance education institution in Canada and it is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools as previously mentioned.

To be clear, I don't think that Athabasca U. would grant a Bachelors degree solely through assessment (with the exception of their three year BGS degree). The other three year (as well as the four year) degrees listed on the site have a 30 credit residency requirement.

I requested some information from them regarding the BGS program (e.g. how much, what they accept in transfer, etc..). I'll post whatever I learn on this thread.
