Hi, How does anyone think ACBSP compares to AACSB? I understand that AACSB has a better reputation, probably higher standards as a whole, but how do you think employers, or whoever views ACBSP? Does this even matter to them? Or if a B-School is not AACSB and only RA, does it not matter to them if it's ACSBP? Just wondering...I'm thinking about applying to the CAL State, Dominguez HIlls MBA program, which is accredited by ACBSP, and is a candidate of AACSB. Because it's not AACSB currently and probably won't be by the time I graduate, (they're in their second year of the candidacy process I think), that's what's holding me back. Anyone's insight would be much appreciated!

    Thanks,

My take is that a lot of employers don't know anything about AACSB or ACBSP. They may recognize some schools by name and reputation - but accreditation is a detail most don't understand.

The reason to go for an AACSB (or ACBSP) school is the quality of the program. The point I'll make is that these two accreditors (esp. AACSB) have requirements for accreditation that will lead to differences in your educational experience.

If you want fast and cheap - go to an RA only school. If you're looking for more than three letters ("MBA") after your name - namely, a significant academic experience - go for an AACSB or ACBSP school. Without a doubt the best business schools in the U.S. are accredited by one of these bodies.

Thanks Andy, what do you think...

Thanks Andy, I agree with you. My dilemma is I'm deciding between the University of TX (not UT- Austin) , which is AACSB, and Cal State University, Dominguez Hills, which is ACBSP, but is a candidate of AACSB. I plan to live in CA or the westcoast later, and not in TX, where I am right now. But the program in TX is already AACSB accredited. I was leaning toward Cal State because I plan to live in the west later, and I thought the name of the school would have a greater bearing, but it's not AACSB accredited. What is your opinion in my situation? I would really appreciate your thoughts, sorry for all the questions.

    Thanks again,

This is a tough call for me to make - I really don't know these two programs very well. They would seem to be roughly comparable, but I'd probably give the UT program a slight quality edge. I'm not sure how they compare on other factors. It looks like a fielder's choice to me.

If you were look at UT Austin - or Indiana or Duke - I'd say to go with the name.

    Regards - Andy
