I'm looking at some postgraduate courses by the Maastricht School of Management. At their website they have stated that they are accredited by ACBSP. How does accredition by ACBSP compare to AACSB?

    Thanks and best regards

Billy - I've commented on this before. Here is my take:

There are three business school accreditations - AACSB, ACBSP and IACBE. All three are professional in nature and require (in the U.S.) regional accreditation as a pre-req.

AACSB is the gold standard. There are about 350 schools so accredited. AACSB has strong input standards (including % PhDs, research requirements, curriculum, etc.). The top U.S. business schools are, almost without exception, AACSB accredited.

ACBSP and IACBE are more recent accreditation organizations. They appeal to schools that are RA, but don't have the resources to be AACSB. Having been through an IACBE accredtation just recently, I believe they do add value. Schools have to prepare self-studies that detail both input variables (such as PhD %) and outcomes (graduate surveys, placement tests, etc.).

Given a choice I'd take an AACSB school above others. Given the choice between an RA only and an RA/ACBSP/IACBE school, I'd go with the latter.

    Thanks - Andy

The Maastricht School of Management is a very reputable private Dutch school right at the borders to Germany and Belgium (only 2 hours to Cologne, for example). Maastricht is also a very nice little Dutch City where it could really be fun to live (at least in Summer). In Holland, there´s no private accreditation, so you should not care too much aboout this one (which is, as Andy already remarked, "okay", but not at all as good as AACSB, which is STANDARD), BUT about the Netherland State Recognition (and accreditation). If the Maastricht School of Management is recognised by the Netherland State Authorities (which I reckon very strongly that it is), so it´s definetely GAAP, and therefore its degrees are "worth" a lot in the whole world...

Just give ´em a call, or an e-mail... (Holland guys normally speak very good English, but with a strong and strange accent *g*).

    Greets,
